Car Getting Older & Neglected It? 2 Types of Maintenance to Start With

If you have a car that is getting older and you have not done any kind of maintenance on it throughout the years, you need to start doing this immediately. Because you have not taken care of your car you likely have noticed problems, such as weird movements of your car, engine overheating, and much more. A lot of damage may not be done yet, so you need to immediately start taking care of your car. To help you, below are two types of maintenance you need to start with.

Tire Balancing

If you have never changed the tires on your car you should have them balanced if they still have tread on them. This is because the tread on each tire will be uneven. For example, the front tires will likely have less tread than the back tires because front tires are used much more, such as when you are turning right or left.

If your tires have this problem, this will cause you to feel vibration in the steering wheel, floorboard, and seat while you are driving your car.

With tire balancing, the mechanic removes the front and rear tires and swaps them. For example, the back tires will be placed on the front and the front tires will be placed on the rear. Once the tires are swapped, the mechanic will make sure the air in each tire is the same.

If the mechanic notices your tires do not have a lot of tread, they will suggest that you replace the tires with new ones. Learn more about the process by contacting services such as Foster's Auto Service Inc.

Oil Change

Changing the oil on your car keeps the engine healthy. This is because oil goes throughout the engine keeping all the parts lubricated when you drive. Because you have not had the oil changed on the car it is likely low and the oil that is left is thick and dirty. This thick and dirty oil has fragments in it. When the oil goes throughout the engine these fragments cause friction on the engine parts. This can cause a lot of damage. Also, if the parts are not lubricated, they will also have friction when you are driving your car.

Your engine will become overheated very easily if this happens if you drive your car for long period. If this happens, you need to turn your car off immediately and have it looked at by a mechanic. If you do not, this will cause a lot of damage to your engine.

Take your car to a mechanic to have the oil changed. They will also change the filter, as it is likely very dirty.

About Me

Creating A More Solid Vehicle A few years ago, I couldn't help but think about replacing my car. It always seemed like it was breaking, and it seemed to have severe problems running consistently. I decided that I couldn't handle the problems any more, so I decided to work hard to create a more solid vehicle by replacing some of the components. I started working with a friend who was great at auto repair work, and within a few months things were looking a lot better. I wanted to start a website all about creating a stronger, more reliable car. Check out this blog for great tips.
